Wasteland 3 only supports crossplay between players on the same platform: PC with PC, XBOX with XBOX, and PlayStation with PlayStation. On PC, players on different storefronts will still be able to play co-op, but will need to use Direct Connect.
Co-op is two players, online only. There is no local or split-screen co-op.
Who can play together
- PC to PC - Same Storefront (Steam, GOG, Microsoft Store)
- Use the lobby browser or a friend invite. This includes Windows, Mac and Linux players connecting to each other.
- PC to PC - Different Storefronts
- Direct Connect only.
- XBOX to XBOX
- PlayStation to PlayStation
Crossplay On PC
If you and your friend bought Wasteland 3 from different PC stores (Steam, GOG or Microsoft Store) the in-game lobby browser and friend invites will not find each other. You will need to use Direct Connect. Windows, Mac and Linux players on the same store connect normally through the lobby.
Decide who hosts
- The host starts a public game (private lobbies do not expose the connection details the guest needs)
- The host forwards port 7777 on their router, for both TCP and UDP.
- The host shares their external IP address with the guest
- Use WhatIsMyIP.com (Note: sharing your external IP can potentially open you up to some risk, so ensure you are only playing co-op with known and trusted friends)
- The guest chooses Direct Connect and enters that IP
If it doesn't connect, swap who hosts. This resolves many of the reported connection issues due to the host's network configuration.
Some home network setups and firewalls will block Direct Connect even when everything is configured correctly. If swapping the host does not help, see the troubleshooting articles below or contact us.
Wasteland 3 co-op runs peer-to-peer with no dedicated servers, so the connection is made directly between the two players. That means the network configuration of both the host and the guest affects the session, and problems on either end can cause disconnects, lag, or desyncs.
