While the vast majority of new systems sold and built by users in 2018 now use both a 64-bit processor and operating system, for compatibility purposes, or in the case of older systems which have been upgraded over time, some computers still use 32-bit operating systems, even if they are capable of running 64-bit software.
Like the majority of newer computer games, The Bard's Tale IV: Barrows Deep has been compiled for 64-bit operating systems in order use newer performance features and larger amounts of memory. As such, it cannot run on 32-bit systems. While 64-bit versions of operating systems are capable of running 32-bit software, the reverse is not possible.
We recommend that you check the minimum requirements for The Bard's Tale IV before installing the game. If you are unsure whether or not you are running a 64-bit version of your operating system, you can confirm this by viewing your system settings:
Windows 10
- Open the "Settings" app,
- Navigate to "About".
- Under "System Type" you should see whether the operating system is 64-bit or 32-bit.
Windows 7/8/8.1
- Open Control Panel.
- Navigate to "System".
- Under "System Type" you should see whether the operating system is 64-bit or 32-bit.
